Probolinggo, 27 October 2022 – PT Paiton Energy (PE) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) synergize climate change mitigation programs with the Tourism Village program in Guyangan Village, Krucil District, Probolinggo Regency, East Java.
As part of actively participating in climate change mitigation, PE and POMI held conservation activities in the form of Spring Protection Program or PERMATA in Guyangan Village.
This program takes the form of planting trees to prevent conversion of forest areas into agricultural land, preventing springs from being polluted by livestock waste, and increasing the volume of spring discharge to preserve waterfalls as natural assets.
In the PERMATA program, PE and POMI have encouraged the local people to plant around 10 thousand trees on about 7 ha of land since 2018. This year, PE and POMI planted 378 trees.
In addition to tree planting, PE and POMI also utilize natural resources in the form of the Jaran Goyang waterfall in the village for renewable energy from the 10 KwH Micro Hydro Power Plant (MHP). The construction of the MHP is to mitigate climate change, as well as to move the wheels of the community’s economy in Guyangan Village.
PE and POMI’s efforts to move the economy of rural communities, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, were also carried out by launching the Jaran Goyang Waterfall Tourism Village on September 25, 2022.
To ensure this program runs well as planned, PE and POMI involve several stakeholders in the management of the PLTMH, namely the Probolinggo Regional Government, Probolinggo Environmental Service, Guyangan Village Government, and the community to carry out program synergy in terms of monitoring and evaluation. In addition, the active role of Kelompok Sadar Wisata (POKDARWIS) is very important in the management of Guyangan Village.
