Probolinggo, 8 Mei 2024 – Efforts to support sustainable development in all sectors, including energy and conservation, require the synergy of multiple stakeholders, including the support of journalists. Therefore, as an effort to strengthen synergy and moments of friendship, PT Paiton Energy (PE) and PT Paiton Operation and Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) held a Halal Bihalal event with fellow journalists in Probolinggo on Wednesday (8/5).
The activity held at the Recreation Hall, Paiton Operation House 1 (POH 1) is part of PE-POMI’s efforts to build Pentahelix synergy in CSR programs to support sustainable development.
Pentahelix is a synergy and collaboration that involves five important components, namely government, community, academia, business and media. These five elements are always involved in the CSR programs of PE and POMI.
The Chief Financial Officer of PT Paiton Energy, Bayu Widianto, and the President Director of PT POMI, Sugiyanto, were also present on the occasion, strengthening the spirit of synergy between the Company and the journalists.
In his speech, Bayu Widyanto expressed his gratitude for the presence of journalists at this event, as well as their support in PE-POMI’s CSR programs, especially in disseminating information to the public. “Journalists have an important role in creating synergy to support the realization of sustainable development, and become an integral part of PE-POMI CSR Program Pentahelix”.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT POMI Sugiyanto said, “We really appreciate the presence of journalists at this event. The synergy between the company and the media is very important in implementing CSR programs that have a positive impact on the region and the environment. Through this Halal Bihalal, we also want to remind the importance of preserving the earth, including the preservation of the earth’s biodiversity”.
Representing the journalists, PWI (Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia) Probolinggo Chairman Suyuti added: “We welcome the initiative of PE and POMI to establish closer cooperation with the media. This event is a good opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the media and the Company, as well as to increase public understanding of environmental and sustainability issues”.
City Forest and Social Forestry Program
At the Halal Bihalal event, President Director of PT POMI Sugiyanto explained that the CSR program in the field of conservation supports the development of Kraksaan City Forest, Probolinggo, and the development of social forestry in Gading District, Probolinggo.
PE-POMI is currently building a jogging track in the city forest of Kraksaan, Probolinggo Regency. Using paving blocks, the project is part of their efforts to integrate environmental sustainability and community economic empowerment.
This move is supported by the signing of a cooperation agreement between PE-POMI, the Probolinggo Environmental Agency (DLH) and the Probolinggo Regency Government by the end of 2023. The construction of a jogging track using pavement materials in the Kraksaan City Forest is expected to provide water management benefits, improve aesthetics, and ease maintenance, while supporting the government’s agenda for environmentally sound business practices.
In early 2024, PE-POMI together with community groups from Kaliacar and Ranu Wurung villages, Gading sub-district, Probolinggo district, organized a planting activity with a total of 54,000 gamal trees on 12 hectares of social forestry land as part of environmental restoration efforts.
In addition, PE-POMI is exploring cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the Faculty of Forestry UGM for the Social Forestry Program, especially in forest rehabilitation in Java. The aim is to increase the carrying capacity of forests to support sustainable development in Java.
This initiative is an integral part of the Company’s program to protect the environment and empower communities through social forestry programs.
Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
