Paiton Energy Utilizes FABA for the Infrastructure of the 7 Ranu Festival

Probolinggo, September 23, 2025 – PT Paiton Energy (Paiton Energy) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) have utilized Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA) waste into eco-friendly paving blocks to support the development of infrastructure for the 7 Ranu Festival area in Probolinggo, East Java.

Paiton Energy and POMI have distributed more than 160,000 FABA eco paving blocks out of a total requirement of 350,000, covering an area equivalent to 8,140 m². In addition, 600 tons of FABA material have also been distributed as a base layer for the paving. Distribution is still ongoing and will continue until the end of October to support the development of infrastructure for the 7 Ranu Festival (The Seven Lakes Festival) area, which will take place at Ranu Segaran Lake on November 7–16, 2025. The areas receiving FABA paving blocks include Segaran Village, Tlogoargo Village, Andungsari Village, and Ranuagung Village.

FABA is the residual ash from coal combustion in coal-fired power plants (PLTU). This waste is then processed for use in various building materials, including paving blocks, interlocking bricks, and hexagonal paving blocks. FABA can also be used for subgrade and the construction of village roads, such as concrete roads.

Unlike conventional paving blocks, FABA-based paving blocks do not use sand but instead make full use of FABA waste mixed with cement. This innovation helps reduce the potential for environmental pollution from coal waste, creates eco-friendly construction products that meet quality standards, and provides economic benefits through the utilization of local resources.

The eco paving block products from Paiton Energy and POMI have a quality grade of K200 and above, based on concrete testing conducted by the ITS Laboratory, and have met construction quality standards. The program to utilize eco paving blocks for infrastructure development has also received full support from the Probolinggo Regency Government.

Previously, the Regent of Probolinggo, Dr. Mohammad Haris, had directly reviewed the FABA processing at the Paiton Energy–POMI Ash Disposal Area in July 2025. The visit was part of the local government’s attention to the company’s initiative in fostering environmentally friendly circular economy practices while also supporting sustainable development policies in Probolinggo Regency.

Head of External Relations of PT Paiton Energy, Bambang Jiwantoro, said that utilizing FABA as a building material in the form of eco paving blocks is part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which not only focuses on waste management but also contributes to environmental sustainability, sustainable development, and community welfare through ecotourism and the circular economy.

“Going forward, the use of FABA will continue to be optimized to support infrastructure development in Probolinggo Regency, particularly in the villages,” said Bambang.

Human Capital Facilities and Community Manager of PT POMI, Rochman Hidayat, said that the utilization of FABA is a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to supporting the development of village infrastructure and ecotourism areas that provide long-term benefits.

“The presence of FABA is also our concrete action to support the implementation of the 7 Ranu Festival, which will take place at Ranu Segaran Lake,” said Rochman.

Meanwhile, the Head of Segaran Village, Budi Utomo, expressed his appreciation for the Company’s support.

“On behalf of the Segaran Village Government, we would like to thank Paiton Energy and POMI for their support and participation in the success of the 7 Ranu Festival. This support strengthens synergy between the local government, the village, and the business sector, while also providing tangible benefits for the community and local tourism. We hope this good cooperation will continue,” said Budi.

The 7 Ranu Festival, also known as the Cultural Festival, will feature a miniature carnival concept with a variety of activities. These include art performances, a procession uniting seven springs, dragon boat races, and glamping activities, aimed at introducing the richness of local culture and traditions to visitors.
The purpose of the 7 Ranu Festival is to introduce and develop nature-based tourism and local wisdom, while also serving as a medium to promote culture and history in Probolinggo to both local and out-of-town visitors.

Currently, Paiton Energy and POMI, through the Paiton bErsiNERGY CSR program, are actively involved in supporting the Probolinggo Regency Government, which is working to improve and provide the necessary facilities and infrastructure to ensure the 7 Ranu Festival runs smoothly and attracts many visitors.

In managing CSR, PT Paiton Energy employs the Pentahelix concept, a model of collaboration involving five key stakeholders: government, community, academia, business, and media. Paiton Energy’s CSR programs are consistently characterized by the involvement of these five elements.

PT Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000. The program is designed on an annual basis and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are divided into three focus areas: supporting the sustainability of companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.

PT Paiton Energy is the first and one of the largest Independent Power Producer (IPP) operating in Indonesia. The shareholders of the Company consist of RATCH Group, Nebras Power, and Medco Daya Energi Sentosa (MDES).
