Paiton Energy Educates Children on the Importance of Waste Management

Jakarta, November 23, 2023 – In an effort to educate the public about the importance of sorting and processing waste, PT Paiton Energy (PE) invited children from an orphanage to see first-hand the integrated processing of waste into electrical energy at Taman Margasatwa Ragunan (TMR).

Through an activity called “Sepenuh Hati bErsiNERGY dan Berbagi,” PE invited 30 children from Mizan Amanah Orphanage, Pejompongan, Jakarta, to see the Waste to Energy (WTE) program at TMR, on Monday (20/11).

The WTE program is PE’s CSR effort in synergy with TMR to develop waste management solutions integrated with renewable energy development.

The WTE program at TMR involves the installation and operation of eight units of biodigesters that convert animal manure and organic waste into biogas. This biogas can then be used to power a power plant, known as a Biogas Waste Power Plant (PLTSa).

During the activity, children from the Mizan Amanah Orphanage were invited to the WTE site and Learning Center to see firsthand the process of converting organic waste, especially animal manure, into gas and electricity.

The goal is to inspire these children to participate in sorting and disposing of waste in their daily lives.

Afterwards, the activity continued with children touring TMR to see different animal collections as an education to love and preserve the environment.

President Director of PT Paiton Energy Koichiro Miyazaki said the WTE program not only serves to convert animal waste into electrical energy, but also seeks to introduce this idea to the wider community, especially to children.

“We hope this will spark their interest, and that in the future these children will become pioneers in environmental protection,” Miyazaki said.

TMR Service and Information Section Head Susi Sondang said that introducing the waste treatment process to children through the WTE program is a shared vision between TMR and Paiton Energy.

“We provide this education to the children so that they can better understand the importance of waste management and how to dispose of waste properly from an early age. This is very important so that in the future they will be more aware of the importance of protecting the environment together,” said Susi.

According to Yayan, Administrator of Mizan Amanah Orphanage, the activity organized by Paiton Energy in collaboration with TMR was a valuable lesson for the children. “They came to understand that garbage and animal waste can be processed into biogas, which can then be used as electrical energy.”

“We hope that this WTE program can continue to grow and provide even greater benefits to the community in the future,” said Yayan.

Mulki, one of the children from Mizan Amanah Orphanage, expressed his excitement, “Right now, I feel very happy and fortunate because by participating in this activity, my friends and I have gained new experiences and knowledge.”

“Not only did we learn that organic and animal waste can be converted into electrical energy, but we also had the opportunity to see various animals at TMR,” said Mulki.

On this occasion, Paiton Energy also made donations to the children of Mizan Amanah Orphanage as a form of caring for others.

Paiton Energy will continue to enhance its positive environmental impact through sustainable business practices and continuous environmental performance improvement initiatives. The Company synergizes its climate change management activities through the Paiton bErsiNERGY Program.
Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
