PE - POMI Improving Children Quality of Life for Advanced Indonesia

Probolinggo, 17 August 2024 – In an effort to help improve the quality of life of children through appropriate medical intervention, PT Paiton Energy (PE) and PT Paiton Operation and Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) conducted a Cleft Lip Surgery as part of the CSR activity “Paiton bErsiNERGY Realizing an Independent Indonesian Generation with Smile and Confidence”.

PE-POMI collaborated with Yayasan Surabaya Cleft Lip & Palate (CLP) Center, and Rizani Hospital, Probolinggo in carrying out the cleft lip surgery. The event was held at Rizani Hospital Medical Facility, Probolinggo on Saturday (8/17).

The medical procedure successfully improved the appearance of the lips and helped restore lip and mouth function for 22 children under the age of five. After cleft lip surgery, the 22 children are expected to lead better lives and lose the social stigma associated with cleft lips.

The cleft lip surgery CSR activity was attended by President Director of PT Paiton Energy, Fazil Erwin Alfitri, Commissioner of PT Paiton Energy, Admiral TNI (Ret.) Marsetio, Acting Regent of Probolinggo, H. Ugas Irwanto, Head of Surabaya CLP Center Medical Team, Dr. Lobredia Zarasade, Sp.BP- RE(KKF), Director of Rizani Hospital, Dr. Mirrah Samiyah, and Head of Probolinggo Health Office, Dr. Hariawan Dwi Tamtomo.

The President Director of PT Paiton Energy Fazil Erwin Alfitri said that every child deserves the opportunity to live a healthy and happy life. Through the Paiton bErsiNERGY CSR program Realizing an Independent Indonesian Generation with Smile and Confidence, the Company strives to provide solutions for children who experience this condition so that in the future they can live life with a smile full of confidence.

“This program is one of our ways to help create a better future generation, in line with our vision to support a progressive Indonesia,” said Fazil Erwin Alfitri.

The Acting Regent of Probolinggo H. Ugas Irwanto also expressed his support for this program. “The Regency Government of Probolinggo strongly supports initiatives such as this that provide real benefits to the community, especially the children. Cooperation between the government, the private sector and the community is very important in our efforts to improve health services in our area,” he said.

Head of Surabaya CLP Center Medical Team Dr. Lobredia Zarasade added, “We focus not only on cleft surgery, but also on education about the importance of timely medical intervention and post-operative care, including rehabilitation and counseling for children and their families. We hope that this cooperation with PE-POMI can continue so that more children can be helped.”

The Director of Rizani Hospital Dr. Mirrah Samiyah said that cleft lip and palate are conditions that require medical intervention. Cleft lips can cause several health and developmental problems in children, including feeding difficulties, hearing loss and speech problems.

“With cleft surgery, we can help correct the condition and give children a chance at a better life. However, family and community support are also very important in their recovery process,” says Dr. Mirrah Samiyah.

Currently, cleft lip and palate should be of particular concern in Indonesia. Data from the Ministry of Health (MoH) indicate that the incidence or number of cases of cleft lip and palate reaches 7,500 cases per year.

Through the Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery CSR initiative, PE-POMI continues to make a significant contribution to building a healthy and self- confident young generation in line with the spirit of this year's Independence Day, and to contributing to the realization of a progressive Indonesia.

In implementing CSR, PE-POMI always applies the Pentahelix concept, which is a synergy and collaboration of five important components: government, community, academia, business and media. These five elements are consistently involved in every CSR program organized by PE and POMI.

Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio- economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
