Inspiring the Young Generation in Waste Management and Conservation

Jakarta, 29 February 2024 – In an effort to educate on environmental sustainability and sustainable waste management, PT Paiton Energy (PE) once again invited children from orphanages to visit Ragunan Wildlife Park (TMR), especially to see first-hand the management of waste into renewable energy (Waste to Energy – WTE).

This activity is an ongoing effort by PE to educate the public, especially the younger generation, about the importance of sorting and processing waste to preserve the environment. Late last year, PE also invited children from the Mizan Amanah Orphanage in Pejompongan, Jakarta.

The WTE program is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effort by PE in collaboration with TMR to develop waste management solutions that are integrated with renewable energy development.

The WTE program at TMR includes the installation and operation of eight units of biodigesters that convert animal manure and organic waste into biogas. This biogas can then be used to power a power plant, known as a Biogas Waste Power Plant (PLTSa).

President Director of PT Paiton Energy Koichiro Miyazaki said the Company is very happy to be able to inspire more people that animal waste can be converted into electrical energy, and of course this is very sustainable energy. In Indonesia itself, sustainability is increasingly needed for a better future.

“These children will have the opportunity to see the various animals at TMR and learn how their waste can be transformed into electrical energy using technology,” said Miyazaki. In the future, the younger generations will be able to adopt an environmentally conscious and sustainable lifestyle, particularly in waste management.

TMR Facilities and Infrastructure Section Staff Dwiko Adam, expressed his pleasure in receiving a visit from the children of Muhammadiyah Orphanage.  This is in line with TMR’s vision and mission to improve the quality of environmental education. It is hoped that these children will become aware of the importance of protecting the environment and processing organic waste into value added products.

“Additionally, the processing of animal waste can produce gas and fertilizer, not just electricity. These things indirectly contribute to improving the quality of the environment, especially in the TMR area,” Adam said.

Administrator of Muhammadiyah Tanah Abang Orphanage Muhammad Ali stated that the activity was a valuable experience for the children. He explained, “They now understand that waste and animal manure can be processed into biogas, which can later be used as a source of electrical energy.” Ali also hopes that the WTE program will continue to grow and provide greater benefits to the community at large.

Naragita, one of the children from the Muhammadiyah Tanah Abang Orphanage, expressed gratitude towards Paiton Energy and TMR for the opportunity to see the wide variety of wild animals that are kept and cared for at TMR to protect them from extinction. “We were also very happy to learn about the waste management process, especially how animal waste can be converted into useful resources such as electricity, gas and fertilizer.”

This visit not only provided a valuable educational experience for the children, but also emphasized PE and TMR’s commitment to protecting the environment and making a positive contribution to society.

Paiton Energy will continue to enhance its positive environmental impact through sustainable business practices and continuous environmental performance improvement initiatives. The Company synergizes its climate change management activities through the Paiton bErsiNERGY Program.
Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
