Probolinggo, August 16, 2026 – As part of efforts to help children with congenital cleft lip conditions gain better quality of life and health to strengthen Indonesia’s future, PT Paiton Energy (www.paitonenergy.com) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI), together with Rizani Hospital, Surabaya CLP Center Foundation, and Smile Train Indonesia, once again held a free cleft lip surgery program in Probolinggo Regency on Sunday (16/8).
Coinciding with the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, this social service activity marks the fourth phase of the sustainability program ‘Merdeka Senyum.’ This year, 14 beneficiary children received free medical treatment. Since its launch in August 2024, this collaborative program has cumulatively succeeded in restoring healthy smiles to 63 children in Probolinggo and surrounding areas.
The event held at Rizani Hospital was attended by Muhammad Haris, Regent of Probolinggo; Fazil Erwin Alfitri, President Director of PT Paiton Energy; Mirrah Samiyah, Director of Rizani Hospital; and Lobredia Zarasade, Head of the Surabaya CLP Center Medical Team.
President Director of PT Paiton Energy, Fazil Erwin Alfitri, stated that this program is part of the Company’s commitment under the CSR pillar Paiton bErsiNERGY to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Pillar 3 on Good Health and Well-Being.
“This free cleft lip surgery not only restores the physical smiles of our children, but also paves the way for them to grow with confidence and embrace a brighter future. For us at Paiton Energy, commemorating independence means making real contributions that liberate communities from physical and social limitations, while also serving as an important foundation for regional and national development,” said Fazil Erwin Alfitri.
Regent of Probolinggo, Muhammad Haris, expressed deep appreciation for the consistent multi-stakeholder synergy that continuously pays attention to the health of children in Probolinggo Regency.
“We are truly grateful and deeply appreciate the continuation of the Merdeka Senyum program, which has now entered its fourth phase. This consistency proves that the concern of Paiton Energy, Rizani Hospital, and Surabaya CLP Center is not merely symbolic action, but a genuine manifestation of long-term commitment. This surgery restores both medical function and the confidence of our children. On this Independence Day, their new smiles are a true symbol of freedom to grow and dream big,” said Muhammad Haris.
Director of Rizani Hospital, Mirrah Samiyah, emphasized the importance of equitable access to quality healthcare facilities for all levels of society.
“The regular social service program ensures that all communities, especially underprivileged families, gain access to quality specialist medical care. The impact of cleft lip and palate conditions extends to aspects of speech function as well as the psychosocial well-being of children and their families. Through this collaboration, Rizani Hospital is ready to provide the best facilities and treatment to restore the quality of life of the patients,” said Mirrah Samiyah.
Meanwhile, Head of the Surabaya CLP Center Medical Team, Lobredia Zarasade, explained the continuity of medical procedures and the assistance provided to all patients after surgery.
“Treatment of cleft lip and palate requires a comprehensive and gradual approach. All patient data from the surgeries conducted in this social service program are recorded in an integrated manner for follow-up care at our facility in Surabaya. The treatment does not stop at the initial surgery, but also includes speech therapy, orthodontic care, and further procedures if needed—all of which are prepared free of charge. The close distance between Probolinggo and Surabaya further facilitates this step-by-step assistance,” explained Lobredia Zarasade.
“Over the course of four implementation phases, the free cleft lip and palate surgery program in Probolinggo has delivered significant positive impacts, including improved quality of life and self-confidence for children, reduced financial burdens on families for surgery and treatment costs, enhanced mental health for parents relieved from anxiety about their child’s future, and contributed to the improvement of the Human Development Index (HDI) of Probolinggo Regency.
This program also reflects the success of implementing multi-stakeholder synergy promoted by PT Paiton Energy and PT POMI, where integrated collaboration between the private sector, local government, professional medical teams, nonprofit foundations, and mass media has been able to create a sustainable social impact.
“In managing ESG, PT Paiton Energy consistently applies the concept of multi-stakeholder synergy, namely collaboration involving key components: government, community, academia, business actors, and media. These five elements are consistently engaged in every ESG program organized by Paiton Energy. Beyond the health pillar, the Company actively promotes environmental sustainability and the economic empowerment of local communities in East Java.
PT Paiton Energy is the first and one of the largest Independent Power Producer (IPP) operating in Indonesia. The shareholders of the Company consist of Medco Daya Energi Sentosa (MDES) as the majority shareholder, RATCH Group, and Nebras Power.
