Elementary School Students are Encouraged to Care About the Environment and Plastic Waste

Probolinggo, June 25, 2025 — PT Paiton Energy and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) partnered with Probolinggo Regency’s Environmental Agency (DLH) to provide creative, participatory education to elementary school students. The goal is to foster awareness and concern for plastic waste and environmental sustainability from an early age.

On Tuesday (6/10), Paiton Energy and POMI, together with the Probolinggo Regency Environmental Agency (DLH), held a workshop themed “Beat Plastic Pollution” at the Kraksaan Urban Forest (Hutaka) in Probolinggo Regency. Dozens of elementary and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) school students from the Kraksaan sub district attended the workshop, which was also held in commemoration of World Environment Day 2025.

The event began with group exercises, followed by a plastic waste collection competition in the Gelora Merdeka Kraksaan Stadium area. Then, the children received training on how to make eco bricks, which are plastic bottles filled with solid, non-biological waste that can be used as an alternative building material.

This workshop is part of the CSR program of PT Paiton Energy and POMI to encourage the community to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviors.

Through the Paiton bErsiNERGY program, the Company is actively contributing to the development of Hutaka as a new icon of Kraksaan City. They are doing so by providing various public facilities, including a jogging track, a multipurpose hall, MSME booths, sports facilities, a reading house, a playground, and an educational open space.

Head of External Relations of PT Paiton Energy, Bambang Jiwantoro said this activity is a tangible example of collaboration among multiple stakeholders to raise environmental awareness at an early age.

“We believe that big changes start with small steps taken from an early age. By inviting children to participate in activities like this one, we hope to instill in them the value of caring for the environment from an early age, so that it becomes part of their daily habits. This aligns with the Company’s commitment to creating a sustainable social impact in our operational areas,” said Bambang.

Human Capital Facilities and Community Manager of PT POMI, Rochman Hidayat
said this activity reflects the Company’s commitment to building an environmental culture with the community.

“We want to be present not only as industry leaders, but also as partners with the community in creating change.” This workshop demonstrates the potential for a strong environmental movement when the world of education, local government, and the business sector collaborate. Furthermore, the Company is committed to reaching more schools and communities therefore this positive impact can be even more widespread,” said Rochman.

To foster enthusiasm among SD/MI students, a trash collection competition and an ecobrick-making contest were held as part of a series of Beat Plastic Pollution workshops.

SDN Rangkang Saqo won the trash collection competition with 4.8 kg of trash collected. SDN Kalibuntu 2 came in second (4 kg), and SD Bintang Harapan came in third (2.7 kg).

SD IT Permata took first place in the ecobrick competition with a result of 280 grams. SDN Kraksaan Wetan I took second place (268 grams), and SDN Asembakor I took third place (228 grams). SD IT Permata was also named the most active participant.

The Company hopes this activity will inspire a broader, more sustainable environmental movement, beginning with the younger generation as future agents of change.

For PT Paiton Energy, this activity is part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point (12) Responsible Consumption and Production, and point (13) Climate Action.
