Consistent in Preserving the Environment, Paiton Energy Achieves Green Proper

Jakarta, February 24, 2025 – PT Paiton Energy has received a Green rating for its consistent and sustainable environmental and social management in the 2024 Corporate Performance Rating Program (PROPER) from the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia.

The PROPER Award was presented at the PROPER Environmental Award Ceremony at Sasono Langen Budoyo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta on Monday, February 24, 2025.

President Director of PT Paiton Energy, Fazil Erwin Alfitri said that Green PROPER is the result of synergy and good cooperation between Company and various parties, including local governments and communities.

“Green PROPER also shows the Company’s strong commitment and real action to always conduct the power generation business safely, cleanly and efficiently, and to empower the surrounding community,” said Fazil Erwin Alfitri.

For PT Paiton Energy, this award is a tangible proof and recognition of the Company’s efforts to carry out environmentally and socially sound business activities to support the government’s efforts to achieve Advanced Indonesia and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Indonesian government initiated PROPER in 1995 to encourage industry players to improve environmental and social management in their operations. Based on established evaluation criteria, PROPER ratings are divided into two main categories, namely compliance (Black, Red, Blue) and beyond compliance (Green and Gold).

The Green PROPER assessment criteria include environmental management systems, energy efficiency, emissions reduction and greenhouse gases, water efficiency, 3R waste management, biodiversity protection, community development and empowerment.

Kick Off of Forest and Land Rehabilitation Synergy in Probolinggo



On the same day, PT Paiton Energy-PT POMI together with the East Java Provincial Forestry Service held a kick-off activity for the synergy of forest and land rehabilitation through the development of energy forests in social forestry areas at PLTU Paiton Energy Employee Housing Complex (POH 2), Probolinggo. This event is the Company’s real step in supporting the social forestry program while improving the quality of the environment around the operational area.

During the event, PT Paiton Energy also received an award from the East Java Provincial Government for its support and contribution to critical land rehabilitation and mangrove ecosystem conservation in East Java. This award was given as a form of appreciation for the Company’s continuous efforts in preserving the environment.

PT Paiton Energy’s Head of External Relations, Bambang Jiwantoro, said that through this collaboration, the Company hopes to have a positive impact on the environment and the surrounding community.

“The development of energy forests under the social forestry program is part of our long-term commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Bambang Jiwantoro.

In the energy forest program, PT Paiton Energy is working with community groups in Gading Subdistrict, Probolinggo Regency to plant gamal trees and productive plants in a social forest area of more than 200 hectares for six years (2025-2030). Gamal trees were chosen for their multi-functional nature, including as biomass feedstock for co-firing (fuel substitution) PLTU and as a source of animal feed.

In environmental management and community empowerment (ESG), PT Paiton Energy – PT Paiton Operation and Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) always applies the Pentahelix concept, which is a synergy and collaboration involving five important components: government, community, academia, business, and media. These five elements are consistently involved in every ESG program organized by Paiton Energy.

PT Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.

PT Paiton Energy is the first and one of the largest Independent Power Producer (IPP) operating in Indonesia. The shareholders of the Company consist of RATCH Group, Nebras Power, and Medco Daya Energi Sentosa (MDES).
