PT Paiton Energy Strengthens Social and Environmental Synergy with BPSKL Java

Probolinggo, 1 November 2024 – PT Paiton Energy has signed a cooperation agreement with the Java Region Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership Center (BPSKL) to promote social and environmental innovation in social forestry programs in the Java region.

This cooperation was formalized through a signing ceremony conducted by the Head of BPSKL Java, Danang Kuncara Sakti, and the Chief Financial Officer of PT Paiton Energy, Bayu Widyanto, which took place at the Administration Building, PT POMI, Paiton, Probolinggo Regency. This agreement covers various activities, especially the development of energy plantation forests and productive plantation forests, including data exchange, joint publications, implementation of social innovations, and capacity building of Social Forestry Business Groups (KUPS) in the Java region.

Following the signing of this agreement, Paiton Energy and BPSKL conducted a field visit to the Social Forest sites managed by the Alam Subur and Ranu Makmur Farmer Groups in Gading Subdistrict, Probolinggo District to monitor progress and provide direct support to the KUPS groups to help them overcome local challenges.

These programs and synergies are part of PT Paiton Energy’s long-term commitment to not only promote sustainable practices, but also to ensure that its operations contribute to the well- being of the community and the environment.

Chief Financial Officer of PT Paiton Energy, Bayu Widyanto, said the Company strongly believes that synergy with the government and the community is essential in building a sustainable environmental and social ecosystem. Through this collaboration with BPSKL Java, the Company hopes to have a real positive impact on local communities, especially in the field of social forestry which is in line with the Company commitment to environmental innovation.

In addition to the cooperation with BPSKL, PT Paiton Energy – POMI organized Gowes Sinergi and the handover of facility assistance for Tourist Villages and Kraksaan City Forest. This activity aims to encourage social and environmental innovation to continue by inviting cooperation and participation of various parties.

The activity was held by taking the momentum of the 79th National Electricity Day commemoration, Sunday (27/10) in Probolinggo, East Java. Gowes Sinergi was attended by about 130 participants from employees of PT POMI, YTL Jawa Timur, PLN Nusantara Power, as well as bicycle communities of employees and contractors.

The series of activities started from Greenthing Beach, Randutatah Village, Paiton District, with the route ending at Kraksaan City Forest (Hutaka).

Gowes Sinergi was also filled with the signing of the handover protocol of the infrastructure assistance provided to Randutatah Village and DLH Probolinggo Regency. In addition, the inauguration of the Hutaka Hall and the jogging track and fishponds were held as part of PT POMI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

Plt. DLH Probolinggo Regency Head, A’at Kardono and Plant Manager of PT POMI, Sugiyanto signed the inauguration and handover of the Hutaka Hall. The hall is equipped with a breastfeeding room and disability-friendly facilities to support community activities and small meetings of regional equipment organizations (OPD).

Plt. DLH Probolinggo Regency Head, A’at Kardono, expressed his gratitude for the attention, care, and sensitivity of PT Paiton Energy – PT POMI towards the development of infrastructure facilities in Hutaka. According to him, this facility is very beneficial for Hutaka’s function as a place for recreation, education, and sports, and encourages the progress of recreational areas in Probolinggo Regency, especially in Kraksaan City.

“I hope this new facility can make Kraksaan City Forest a new icon for Probolinggo Regency and make Kraksaan City a clean and competitive city,” said A’at Kardono.

Plant Manager of PT POMI, Sugiyanto, said the Company is proud to support this initiative, which not only strengthens the relationship between the Company and the community, but also provides tangible benefits to the environment by improving infrastructure and facilities in tourist destinations such as Greenthing Beach and Kraksaan City Forest.

“Synergy between the Company, local communities and the government is essential to build a sustainable ecosystem that supports the development of the Probolinggo region. The existing facilities, including Greenthing Beach and Kraksaan City Forest, are expected to become safe and comfortable recreational areas for visitors.,” said Sugiyanto.

Gowes Sinergi was also a moment of education and socialization of PT POMI’s Community Development Program (COMDEV), which was introduced to internal and community participants. Today, Greenthing Beach and Kraksaan City Forest are tourist destinations with various facilities for visitors as a result of the synergy between PT Paiton Energy – PT POMI’s CSR programs and the local government.

In implementing CSR, PT Paiton Energy – PT Paiton Operation and Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) always applies the Penta Helix concept, which is a synergy and collaboration of five important components: government, community, academia, business, and media. These five elements are consistently involved in every CSR program organized by Paiton Energy and POMI.

PT Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio- economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
