Paiton Energy Presents PLTMH to Support Energy Conservation

Jakarta, 22 Desember 2021 – In order to mobilize and empower the community for energy conservation, PT Paiton Energy (Paiton Energy) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) present the Energy Learning House program which aims to strengthen the study and utilization of renewable energy potential in the surrounding area such as Biogas, Power Plants Wind Power (PLTB), Solar Power Plant (PLTS) and Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH). Some of the facilities built are also combined with learning facilities related to renewable energy.

Currently, doing energy conservation is very important to reduce the carbon emissions and prevent the climate change. One of the steps to mitigate climate change is to deliver renewable energy combined with energy efficiency. Therefore globally every December 14 is commemorated as the Energy Conservation Day to highlight the importance of preserving energy.

Paiton Energy has presented three PLTMH facilities as part of the Energy Learning House. Each of them is located at Kali Pedati Waterfall (7 KW), Jaran Goyang Waterfall in Guyangan Village (10 KW), and Tribang Waterfall in Ngepung Village (10 KW) which was built at the end of last October as the III Energy Learning program.

The three PLTMHs were built in villages that geographically is difficult to get the electricity from PLN. For example, the Ngepung waterfall PLTMH is located under the foot of Mount Bromo.

The utilization of PLTMH will be managed by Village Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) so that the continuity can be maintained and community participation can be realized.

For remote areas, the presence of renewable energy such as PLTMH is very important to improve the welfare of rural communities and surrounding areas.

Chief Financial Officer of Paiton Energy, Bayu Widyanto said the construction of the PLTMH is a real step by the company to be able to move the economic wheels of community in remote areas, as well as the climate change mitigation effort.

“During the day when people do not use electricity much, the remaining energy can be used together to increase the creative economy that increase their daily income,” said Bayu.

“We hope that this program will continue and be carried out independently by the community and disseminate the knowledge related to the use of water resources into electrical energy,” Bayu continued.

CFS Manager of PT Paiton Energy – POMI Bambang Jiwantoro said the Energy Learning House program, which is one of the PLTMH facilities, in addition to providing renewable energy sources, also functions as a renewable energy education center. “This is because most of the main equipment for the PLTMH facility is made by the Paiton Selaras Education and Training Institute which is part of POMI – Paiton Energy,” said Bambang.

In implementing the PLTMH program, Paiton Energy and POMI conduct the evaluation regularly with the community and local village government. The evaluation that carried out every month aims to check the progress of the benefits, determine anticipations if needed and also create new innovations.

Paiton Energy has implemented the CSR program since 2000 which is designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. Programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
