Sidoarjo, October 2, 2025 – As a form of concern for humanitarian action and disaster emergency response in Sidoarjo Regency, PT Paiton Energy (Paiton Energy) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) deployed an Emergency Response Team (ERT) under the coordination of ESDM Siaga Bencana to assist in the search and evacuation of victims of the collapsed Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) building in Buduran, Sidoarjo, East Java.
The three-story building used as a prayer hall in the male dormitory area of Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, collapsed, with the debris burying students while they were performing the Asr prayer at around 3:00 PM (WIB) on Monday (September 29, 2025). The disaster resulted in fatalities, and dozens of students were reported to be trapped under the rubble.
The ERT team from Paiton Energy – POMI, consisting of three experienced rescuers, Setya Edy Pranata (Captain), M. Yusuf Sulaiman (CSSR), and Fani Paskah Riawan (CSSR), has been on site since Monday night (September 29). They are equipped with various rescue tools required to handle a collapsed structure incident, as well as emergency medical equipment.
The Paiton Energy – POMI team, together with several other companies such as Freeport Indonesia, Amman Mineral, Bumi Suksesindo, and ASTRA, joined BASARNAS and the National Disaster Management Agency at the scene to carry out Collapsed Structure Search & Rescue operations. The Joint Team is continuing evacuation efforts to this day.
The team’s focus is to help open access to victims who are still responsive, while prioritizing the safety of rescuers amid high-risk field conditions caused by the unstable building structure. Efforts include installing additional supports, manual excavation, and the use of jacks to widen evacuation pathways.
Head of External Relations of PT Paiton Energy, Bambang Jiwantoro, said that the Paiton Energy – POMI family expresses its deepest condolences for the tragedy that struck Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School. The presence of the Paiton Energy – POMI team on site is a manifestation of our concern and solidarity in supporting the acceleration of victim evacuation.
“This is a humanitarian call for the Company to take immediate action. We hope that synergy with BASARNAS and various stakeholders can accelerate the response and provide aid to the victims,” said Bambang Jiwantoro.
According to Human Capital Facilities and Community Manager of PT POMI Rochman Hidayat, the team’s involvement in this rescue operation is in line with the Company’s social mandate to always be prepared to support disaster emergency response.
“Through the ESDM Siaga Bencana program, we prepare teams and equipment to be ready to mobilize immediately in the event of an emergency. We believe that multi-stakeholder collaboration is crucial so that disaster response can be carried out more quickly, in a coordinated manner, and with safety as the top priority,” said Rochman.
