Probolinggo, August 16, 2025 – PT Paiton Energy (PE) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI), together with Rizani Hospital, Surabaya CLP Center Foundation, and Smile Train Indonesia, once again held a free cleft lip surgery program for toddlers in Probolinggo Regency on Sunday (16/8). During the event, the Declaration of Probolinggo Regency Free Smiles for an Advanced Indonesia was announced.
The Free Smiles Declaration represents a multi-stakeholder commitment to continue working together to realize a cleft-free Probolinggo Regency to create a prosperous society and an advanced Indonesia. This program is a first step to ensure that no child is left behind because of their physical condition, while also building a healthy society as an essential foundation for regional and national development.
The cleft lip surgery took place on August 16, 2025, at Rizani Hospital, involving 15 child beneficiaries. Prior to that, on August 15, 2025, all patients underwent health screening to ensure their readiness for surgery. This program marks the third implementation since August 2024, and the second time it has been held in commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day.
The cleft lip surgery event on Sunday (16/8) was attended by Muhammad Haris, Regent of Probolinggo; Fazil Erwin Alfitri, President Director of PT Paiton Energy; Mirrah Samiyah, Director of Rizani Hospital; and Lobredia Zarasade, Head of the Surabaya CLP Center Medical Team.

President Director of PT Paiton Energy, Fazil Erwin Alfitri, stated that this program is part of the Company’s commitment to improving the quality of life of children through health interventions with long-term impact. This free cleft lip surgery CSR initiative represents a tangible expression of our care in creating a generation of independent smiles for an advancing Indonesia.
“This free cleft lip surgery not only brings new hope to patients born with this condition but also brings happiness to their families. Through this program, we can help improve their quality of life, both in terms of health and psychological well-being,” said Fazil Erwin Alfitri.
Regent of Probolinggo, Muhammad Haris said, “This surgery not only restores speech function medically but also helps boost our children’s confidence, giving them new smiles and a better hope for life. We should be grateful that in the past two years this initiative has been carried out three times, a proof that this concern is not merely symbolic but continuous and truly impactful. Especially in the moment leading up to Independence Day, may this activity become a symbol of true independence for them, free from limitations and free to dream higher.”
Director of Rizani Hospital, Mirrah Samiyah, said, “This program ensures that all members of the community, especially those who are less fortunate, have access to affordable and quality healthcare services. Speech disorders and psychosocial impacts are often challenges faced by patients and their families. Therefore, on this Independence Day, we want to make a real contribution through this cleft lip surgery social service.”
Head of the Surabaya CLP Center Medical Team, Lobredia Zarasade, said, “We keep the data of patients who undergo surgery in this social service for follow-up treatment at our foundation in Surabaya. For patients with cleft palate, surgery alone is not sufficient but requires continued therapy such as speech training, dental care for upper jaw formation, and additional procedures such as correcting nasal speech, closing gum clefts, and jaw reconstruction. All of these services are available free of charge at our foundation in Surabaya. The proximity of Surabaya to Probolinggo also makes it easier for patients to continue their treatment.”
The cleft lip surgery program is part of a multi-stakeholder commitment to improving children’s quality of life through health interventions with long-term impact. The success of this program is the result of close collaboration among all parties involved. This synergy reflects the spirit of gotong royong, one of the noble values of our nation.
Multi-stakeholder synergy facilitates resource provision, accelerates implementation, and expands the reach of beneficiaries. This CSR collaboration model can be replicated in other regions as a best practice to address child health issues.
PT Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000. The program is designed on an annual basis and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are divided into three focus areas: supporting the sustainability of companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
In managing ESG, PT Paiton Energy employs the Pentahelix concept, a model of collaboration involving five key stakeholders: government, community, academia, business, and media. Paiton Energy’s ESG programs are consistently characterized by the involvement of these five elements.
