Jakarta, December 4, 2024 – Through its Solar School Program, PT Paiton Energy is providing Rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS) to three schools in Jakarta. The donation is intended to support the government’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year, PT Paiton Energy donated Rooftop PLTS to SMKN 54 Jakarta, SMKN 53 Jakarta and SMAN 70 Jakarta. The inauguration of the rooftop solar power plant for SMKN 54 was held on May 22, 2024. While the inauguration of the use of Rooftop PLTS for SMKN 53 and SMAN 70 were held on Wednesday (4/12) in Jakarta.
The inauguration of the Rooftop PLTS for SMAN 70 and SMKN 53 was conducted by Winner Jihad Akbar, Director of Senior High School, Directorate General of Early Childhood, Basic and Secondary Education, Ministry of Education and Culture. The event was also attended by Plt. Head of the Jakarta Special Region Provincial Education Office Sarjoko, President Director of PT Paiton Energy Fazil Erwin Alfitri, Principal of SMAN 70 Sunaryo, Principal of SMKN 53 Pudji Sumaryanto, Principal of SMKN 54 Hamidah Nasir, and other invited guests.
PT Paiton Energy presents Rooftop PLTS for SMKN 53 and SMAN 70 Jakarta in the form of 20 Solar PV (Photovoltaic) units with a capacity of 10 kWp. One Rooftop PLTS can provide up to 10 kW of electricity that can be used for daily school needs. Each month the Rooftop PLTS can reduce CO2 emissions by 0.68 tons, which is equivalent to planting one tree.
The installation of Rooftop PLTS for the three schools is part of the Company’s efforts to help the government achieve three of the 17 global and national commitments in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): quality education (#4), clean and affordable energy (#7), and addressing climate change (#13).
The Solar School Program also supports the Indonesian government’s efforts to increase the use of renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions. In this case, this includes the success of the Jakarta Special Government Program for the Establishment of Net Zero Carbon Schools, which is part of helping Jakarta achieve its goal of becoming a Net Zero Emission City by 2050.
Winner Jihad Akbar, Director of Senior High Schools, Directorate General of Early Childhood, Basic and Secondary Education, Kemendikdasmen, said, “The presence of Rooftop PLTS in schools not only supports efforts to create a quality educational environment, but also makes a real contribution to the energy transition. This installation gives students the opportunity to learn first-hand about renewable energy while helping to reduce carbon emissions. This program is a clear example of how education and sustainability can go hand in hand to create a greater impact.

Head of the Jakarta Special Region Provincial Education Office Sarjoko said, “Three of the 17 global and national commitments for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely quality education, clean and affordable energy, and climate action, are key pillars in creating a sustainable future. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government fully supports initiatives such as this Solar School Program, which contributes to the realization of the Net Zero Carbon School Program as part of the Regional Low Carbon Development Plan. With multi-stakeholder collaboration, including the active role of education and the private sector, Jakarta is optimistic to achieve the goal of a “Zero Carbon Emission City” by 2050.
President Director of PT Paiton Energy Fazil Erwin Alfitri said Solar School Program is the Company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) program as a form of implementation of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concept. This is a form of PT Paiton Energy’s real action to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to support the energy transition.
“This program also aims to support the energy transition and expand the use of renewable energy in the education sector,” said Fazil Erwin Alfitri.
According to the Principal of SMAN 70 Jakarta Sunaryo, the installation of the Rooftop PLTS will bring tangible benefits to SMAN 70 in terms of learning, energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction. The school is committed to making the best use of this facility to support higher quality education.
“In addition to the energy benefits, this program has become a hands-on learning tool for our students. We believe this facility will motivate students to learn more about renewable energy and the importance of protecting the environment,” said Sunaryo.
Principal of SMKN 53 Jakarta, Basuki Rahmad, said, “This Rooftop PLTS is a great innovation for our school. In addition to making a significant contribution to reducing energy costs, this facility opens great opportunities for students to learn renewable energy technology first-hand. We are committed to the best use and maintenance of this facility.
