PE and POMI are awarded as Supporters of ProKlim 2021

Jakarta, October 29, 2021 – Concern and active participation in climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts at the village level have made PT Paiton Energy (the “Company” or “Paiton Energy”) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) an appreciation from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) as companies that support the 2021 Climate Village Program (ProKlim). The awarding of the Charter was carried out at the peak event of the 2021 Climate Festival on Tuesday (19/10), at the KLHK office, Jakarta.

ProKlim is a national-scale assessment event that combines climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts held by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) by involving the active role of the community and various local government parties, businesses, universities and non-government institutions.

Paiton Energy and POMI have been active in ProKlim as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program since 2017. Until now ProKlim has been implemented in 10 villages in East Java.

The charter received by Paiton Energy and POMI is an acknowledgment of the Company's efforts to provide guidance to ProKlim villages located in Paiton District and Krucil District, Probolinggo Regency. Binor Village, Paiton District was the winner of the 2015 Berseri Village/Village Contest. Meanwhile, Bermi Village, Watu Panjang Village, and Guyangan Village have received Proklim awards for their assistance in waste management in Krucil District. The assisted villages each year receive a Proklim award from the KLHK.

Chief Financial Officer of PT Paiton Energy, Bayu Widyanto said this award was not the Company’s main goal. Paiton Energy actively participates in ProKlim to provide more benefits to the community and the surrounding environment. “In addition, efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change must of course be carried out by all parties, including communities and companies. All parties must support the government in reducing carbon emissions,” said Bayu.

CFS Manager of PT Paiton Energy – POMI Bambang Jiwantoro said that the Company's goal in ProKlim is an effort to increase the involvement of the community and all parties at the site level in carrying out local actions to increase resilience to the impacts of climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

Paiton Energy and POMI have carried out several CSR programs to support the climate change control. One of them is the mangrove and Blekok bird conservation program. The mangrove conservation has succeeded in reducing carbon emissions by 1,092.6 tonsC/Ha. Then there is the Energy Learning House program which encourages learning and the use of renewable energy in the form of biogas, wind turbines, and Micro Hydro Power Plants in several villages in the Probolinggo and Situbondo districts.

Paiton Energy has implemented a CSR program since 2000 which is designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. Programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
