Paiton Energy Investments for a Sustainable Earth through Corporate Social Responsibility results in the Top CSR Awards 2022

Jakarta, April 14, 2022 – Since the last 10 years, PT Paiton Energy (PE) – PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) has been actively investing to keep the earth sustainable. Investments are made through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program which synergizes environmental conservation efforts with improving the community's economy.

These CSR programs are in line with the call from the celebration of Earth Day 2022, namely "Invest in Our Planet". The theme is to invite all parties including the business world to act and be involved in shaping a sustainable future.

PE – POMI’s CSR programs that have been carried out so far include community forest conservation, which is synergized with improving welfare in Selobanteng Village, East Java. This activity has provided benefits in the form of environmental sustainability, improving the people's economy, and mitigating climate change through the absorption of carbon emissions. Every year the carbon emission absorbed in the Community Forest is at least 3,853 tonsC/Ha.

In addition, there is also a CSR program in the form of mangrove forest conservation in Blekok Village, Situbondo, East Java, as part of climate change mitigation. These conservation efforts are also synergized with improving community welfare through ecotourism and creative economy.

In agriculture, the Company develops organic farming in collaboration with the Cempiring Farmers Group in Paiton which has received recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture as an Organic Agriculture Certification Test Center. The organic farming program will be further integrated into the permaculture program in Ngepung Village, Probolinggo, East Java.

President Director of PT Paiton Energy Koichiro Miyazaki said protecting the earth is the responsibility of all parties, and we need to do it together. Paiton Energy protects the earth by investing in the preservation of the earth for a sustainable future.

“Our investment concept for the preservation of the earth always strives to synergize the environmental conservation activities with the community's economic improvement," said Miyazaki.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT POMI Sugiyanto said that the CSR program places great emphasis on community involvement and empowerment. In addition to providing added value to the Company's presence for the community, this program also aims to continue to maintain existing positive relationships.

“Every three years, the Company conducts a social mapping survey by external parties which is then updated internally every year. Based on this understanding of social mapping, we have compiled a series of Corporate CSR programs. In addition, the Company also aligns the program with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, said Sugiyanto.

Multiple Awards

Paiton Energy's CSR programs are considered by many to be effective, targeted, and beneficial programs for both the environment and society.

This can be seen from the various awards that have been achieved by Paiton Energy. Among them, Top CSR Awards 2021, Investment Award 2021, Bronze medal in HR Excellence Award 2021, HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2021 award to an award from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) as a company supporting the Climate Village Program (Proklim) 2021.

Most recently, Paiton Energy received two awards at the 2022 TOP CSR Awards because Paiton Energy was considered successful in synergizing the environmental conservation efforts with the community's economic improvement.

Paiton Energy won an award for the TOP CSR Awards 2022 category on # Star 4. This means that it received the title of “very good” (4 stars) regarding the alignment of CSR with Paiton Energy's business strategy, thus supporting environmental and business sustainability. Also, the CSR adopts Creating Shared Value (CSV) and can be an example or can be recommended to other companies.

The second award for Paiton Energy is the TOP Leader on CSR Commitment 2022, which was given to the President Director of PT Paiton Energy Koichiro Miyazaki. He is considered to have a high commitment in supporting the completeness of the system, governance, and the successful implementation of the company's CSR.

President Director of PT Paiton Energy Koichiro Miyazaki said the award that was obtained by Paiton Energy is a manifestation of the company's commitment to continue to innovate in protecting the environment and corporate social responsibility for the existence of the surrounding community.

“This award achieved by Paiton Energy is a clear proof of the Company's seriousness in continuing to maintain social responsibility towards society and the environment. We believe in the value that the presence of a business entity must provide tangible benefits to the community and the surrounding environment," said Miyazaki.

The TOP CSR Awards are organized by Top Business Magazine in collaboration with several CSR associations and consultants. This year's award carries the theme Being a Responsible Company is the Key Strategy for Business Sustainable Growth. The presentation of the TOP CSR Awards was held in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

Paiton Energy has implemented its CSR program since 2000 which was designed annually and monitored by the Community Development Committee. The programs are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of Companies (power plant), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.
