Energy Learning House Program for Climate Change Mitigation

Probolinggo, 26 October 2022 – PT Paiton Energy (PE) and PT Paiton Operation & Maintenance Indonesia (POMI) continue to actively support climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts through a number of initiative programs. Currently, one of them is through the Energy Learning House.

The Energy Learning House Program is implemented by PE and POMI in order to mobilize and empower the community for energy conservation. Also, to strengthen the study and utilization of renewable energy potential in the Probolinggo Regency area in the form of a Micro Hydro Power Plant (MHP). The MHP facility is combined with learning facilities related to renewable energy.

The Energy Learning House initiative program is also synergized with efforts to improve the economy of the surrounding community. One of them is in Plaosan Village, Krucil District, Probolinggo Regency.

In Plaosan Village, PE and POMI have presented an MHP facility that is already in full operation as part of the Energy Learning House. The 7 KW MHP is located at Kali Pedati Waterfall. The MHP was built in Plaosan Village, whose geographical location is difficult to reach by electricity flow from PT PLN (Persero) because of its hilly natural conditions.

Chief Financial Officer of PT Paiton Energy, Bayu Widyanto said that the MHP does not only function as a provider of electricity in Plaosan Village, but also serves as a pilot for new renewable energy solutions in Probolinggo Regency.

“Of course, the Company hopes that the MHP can move the wheels of the economy of people in remote villages, as well as an effort to mitigate climate change. We also hope that this program will continue and be carried out independently by the community by continuing to spread knowledge regarding the use of water resources into electrical energy,” said Bayu Widyanto.

Head of External Relations of PT Paiton Energy, Bambang Jiwantoro said that currently the utilization of MHP is managed by MHP Group consisting of 14 family heads (KK) so that continuity can be maintained and community participation can still be realized.

“For remote areas, the presence of renewable energy such as MHP is very important to improve the welfare of rural communities and surrounding areas,” said Bambang Jiwantoro.

Human Resources Manager of POMI, Rochman Hidayat said that the current benefits of the Energy Learning House program in Plaosan Village are that the electricity produced is more stable, areas with limited access are now electrified from the construction of the MHP.

“The MHP facility in Plaosan Village has a capacity of ± 7000 watts which is divided for 14 families with a total power per household of ± 500 watts,” said Rochman Hidayat.

Shinhan, Head of the Plaosan Village MHP Manager, said the Energy Learning House program in Plaosan Village can improve the welfare of local residents and increase public awareness of the use of electrical energy. “This program is a means of educating the public in creating environmental conservation,” he said.

The MHP facility from the Energy Learning House program in Plaosan Village is one of Paiton Energy’s various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs which are categorized into three focuses, namely supporting the sustainability of the Company (generating), socio-economic sustainability, and energy and environmental sustainability.

Paiton Energy commits and works hard to make sure the electricity supply from the units 7, 8, and 3 are well maintained in order to support the efforts of PT PLN (Persero), to maintain the reliability of the Java, Madura, and Bali grid.
